a poet

among the trays of time
he finds himself alone
with dark skies circling him
he picks up his pen
and writes

deep thoughts control him
with the wind keeping him alive
and the touch of her
still remains to be his sanity
as he continues to write

the torture of his failure
haunts his soul
cutting deep into his veins
where he holds his love
still writing

sometimes there is not
a reason for everything
because he still has yet to know
why he writes
why he loves her

and a poet he remains.

Food For Thought #7 - Mind vs. Heart

The mind. The mind represents intelligence. It controls virtually everything we do. We use it to think and act. We use it to make decisions. It’s our decision maker.

The heart. The heart is the beat of our bodies. The heart is a symbol for love. We live because our heart beats, thus we live for love.

Have you ever been in a situation where, one part of you wants to this, but on the other hand, you want to do something completely different? That could be your mind and heart fighting each other. In everyday life, we experience this. Like let’s say you are in…McDonalds. You want the McShaker dealie because its healthy and you should be eating that sort of thing (mind), but on the hand, The Big Mac is so much tastier and that is what you are craving (heart). What you end up choosing is up to you, or your heart, or mind.

Mind represents what you think is right, what you should do. After all, it represents intelligence.

Heart represents desire, what you want. After all, we all want love don’t we?

That’s what I interpret mind and heart as.

So what is the better choice? Do what is right is always the best choice (heart and mind) yet sometimes, what you want isn’t always the best choice (mind). Do what you want, please yourself (heart).

I’ve been in that situation one to many times. Not just with everyday life like going to a fast food restaurant or something like that, but with personal choices. It took me days and days before coming to a decision. But after that, I’ve always resolved to one choice.

A long time ago, I asked a very good friend, Lynn, once why I do what I do. I asked her I torture myself with my futile attempts to please “this person.” She didn’t answer right away, rather she wrote a poem for me. The last few lines summed up that I was following my heart, and there was nothing wrong with that.

Well since then, I’ve been following my heart, and I don’t have any regrets. Besides, Lynn is good at giving advice, for some reason she is always right…

Recent events have made me dwell upon this topic. So what do you do? Heart? Mind?
